I know I wouldn't be happy with a neighbor who painted their house pink (although I grew up on a street where the woman had a cream colored brick house, but her shutters, doors, and even her car were all pink, as was the entire interior of her house. I have never lived where abandoned cars or rusting appliances feature as 'yard art', so perhaps I'm lucky. We all have to live in the world, and just like you're going to be better received if your clothes are clean and some basic grooming has occurred regularly, your house and land require some attention. I don't agree with 'my property, anything goes' type stuff. I live in suburbia, though, so we're all pretty cookie cutters of one another, anyway.

I maintain my property for several reasons: it's my duty, it helps the neighborhood look good, it makes for friendly neighbors. We don't have a HOA here, but there are communal standards (as well as zoning and local ordinances). I never thought of HOAs when I took the poll.
